Nancy Wilson, a jazz performer and three-time Grammy Award winner was born in Chillicothe, Ohio on the 20th of February, 1937. She was married to Olden Wilson, an ironworker. had been employed for a considerable time as housekeeper. Nancy Wilson was first child of six. The father of Nancy was a musician and would play records with his children at home. This was a major influence on her as a child. As young as 4years old, Nancy was aware that her future was as a singer. The talent she had developed was discovered when she sang in the choir of her church. When she was 15 and had a chance to win an audition on television and started appearing regularly in The Skyline Melodies Tv Show while at the time she was still in high school. In the nightclubs she started performing at the age of 15. Nancy was a high school graduate at the age of 17 and then attended Ohio's Central State College, now Central State University for a whole year. Then she dropped out to pursue a career as professional musician. In 1956 she released her debut album along with Rusty Bryant's Carolyn Club Big Band. They performed together between 1956 and 1958. In the band, Nancy released her first record on Dot Records. Cannonball adderley advised her to go for a trip to New York in order to advance her career. She visited The Big Town, New York in 1959. She was commissioned to sing for The Blue Morocco Night Club located in The Bronx which was where her agent had come across her. He obtained a contract for the label Capitol Records in the year 1960. she made her debut that year, with a single. Guess Who I Saw Today. Capitol released five Nancy Wilson Albums in 2 years. The first was focused on R&B however, under Adderley's influence, she started to take on jazz. Nancy Wilson, Cannonball Adderley as well as their 1962 partnership made her a star. The singer had her breakout hit Tell Me the Truth by 1963. It was this performance that brought her to the stage at the New York Coconut Grove in 1963, America's most popular nightclub.
